Jac Gijzen Oudenbosch *1956
Jac Gijzen (born in 1956 in Oudenbosch) studied at St. Joost Academy in Breda. Motivated by the visual language and colour combinations used by predecessors like Pollock, De Kooning, Bogart and Vedova. Gijzen created a series of abstract drawings in the 1960s. In the 1980s, Gijzen began travelling frequently to Asia, where he was moved by the unspoilt nature and mentality of the local inhabitants. Upon returning from his travels full of inspiration, Gijzen fill his studio with paintings, the style of which can best be described as ‘ethereal expressionism’ . This artistic trend is a new manifestation of abstract expressionism that has developed its uniqeu style through an interaction between various Eastern cultures. In artistic expressions, Jac Gijzen successfully bridges the spirituality of the East with the materialism of the West. Light and colours from his surroundings are given shape and visualised on canvas or Nepali paper. Gijzens preferred medium is oil, although acrylics and other quick-drying paints are a true godsend for during his many foreigns travels, as they can be readily used for his works on paper.
